De website thepassionatepursuit heeft enige enige details gepubliceerd over het nieuwe generatie "telematics service" van Lexus, welke zal gaan debuteren op de nieuwe RX. Dit systeem krijgt de naam "Lexus enform".

De specificaties welke gemeld worden zijn voor de Verenigde Staten, maar hopelijk zal het merendeel hier ook in Europa beschikbaar komen. Dit systeem zal onder andere de volgende functionaliteiten hebben:

• Automatic Collision Notification (ACN): Safety Connect’s ACN will help drivers receive the necessary response from emergency teams. In the event of either an airbag deployment or a severe rear-end collision; the response center will be automatically notified via embedded cellular technology and GPS.
• Stolen Vehicle Location (SVL): Safety Connect subscribers will be able to rely on an extra level of security in the event that their vehicle is stolen. If this should happen, Safety Connect will assist in tracking the location of the stolen vehicle using the vehicle’s GPS.
• Emergency Assistance Button (SOS)All Safety Connect–enabled vehicles will come equipped with an SOS button, with the call center’s 24-hour emergency assistance only a press away.
• Roadside Assistance: Call center agents will help drivers receive aid for a wide range of needs, such as towing, jump start, flat tire, fuel delivery, etc. With this service, drivers will not need to rely on additional membership organizations for roadside coverage to help them get back on the road.
• Destination Assist: Live-operator assistance with finding destinations will be just the press of a button away with Destination Assist. While either parked or driving, the driver will be able to easily connect to an operator to ask for help finding local points of interest from dining to gas stations, dry cleaners to museums.
• eDestination: An expedient self-service feature of Lexus Enform is eDestination, which will allow the user to go online, via the Lexus owners’ Web site, to select and organize destinations of their choice and then send them wirelessly to their vehicle. The user can then simply select the destination of their choice and send it to a folder-creating a new one or inserting it into one they have already built. When finished making selections and creating folders, the user simply selects “save to vehicle” and their personalized destinations will be available to load into the vehicle’s navigation system upon the next start up.

This new casual-speech voice recognition system, called voice command, features VoiceBox Technology’s award-winning, patented Conversational Voice Search, and allows drivers to speak more flexible, conversational commands for easier access and control.

Without voice command, users must speak commands in a specific order, e.g., “Phone > Dial by Name > Dial Bob.” Now this same task can be completed simply by saying, “Call Bob at home.” The voice command system also works to control many functions of the audio system, heating and air conditioning, and the navigation system. Commands such as, “Make it cooler,” “Let’s find XM channel 46,” “I want a Japanese restaurant,” and “Where’s the nearest gas station along my route?”

One thing we know about Lexus drivers is that they appreciate up-to-the-minute information about the world around them. With Lexus Insider, a complimentary service on all Lexus Enform navigation-equipped vehicles, customers will be able to listen to audio broadcasts in their vehicles with the push of a button.

Because broadcast data transmission to automobiles is necessarily complicated by the unpredictable nature of when, and for how long, vehicles will be powered on, Lexus Insider makes use of innovative technology to optimize delivery.

Lexusforum.nl is overgestapt op een nieuwe webhost. Als het goed is moet U een zeer groot verschil in snelheid merken. Het kan echter zijn dat er enige problemen zijn betreffende de website. Mocht U deze tegenkomen, zou U deze dan willen verwoorden in ons forum? Verder heb ik gelijk een nieuwe versie van het CMS geintalleerd. Alles zou goed moeten werken.

Lexus heeft bekend gemaakt dat de HS 250h in productie gaat. De auto wordt gepresenteerd op de Detroit Auto Show. Helaas voor Nederlandse geïnteresseerden: de auto komt niet naar ons land.
 
De HS 250h wordt een middelgrote sedan die onder de GS in het gamma komt. De aandrijving wordt verzorgd door een 2,4-liter benzinemotor die wordt bijgestaan door een elektromotor. Diezelfde aandrijflijn is te vinden in de Toyota Camry Hybrid.
Volgens de importeur komt de HS 250h niet naar Nederland. Dat is opmerkelijk aangezien de hybridetechnologie gunstig kan zijn met het oog op het bijtellingsregime in ons land. Maar Lexus heeft voor Europa de IS220d om de CO2-uitstoot terug te dringen. Voor de zwaardere modellen blijft Lexus wel vasthouden aan hybride-aandrijflijnen. Diesels hoeven we van de GS, de LS en de RX niet te verwachten, is ons drie jaar geleden bij de komst van de diesel-IS verteld.  

De eerste spyshots van de komende HS250h, de Lexus welke onder de IS gaat vallen en gebaseerd is op de toyota Prius, zijn verschenen op leftlanenews.com. Hoewel de auto gecamoufleerd is, zijn er toch al direct een aantal vragen beantwoordt. De grootste zijnde dat het een sedan gaat worden.

De aandrijving van de auto is nog onbekend, er zijn speculaties dat dit een 4 cilinder 2.0 i.c.m. een elektromotor of de 2.5V6 uit de huidige IS250. De laatste optie lijkt mij redelijk onlogisch gezien de benaming van de auto. De GS450h wordt aangedreven door een 3.5V6, waarbij de cijfers 450 moeten aangeven dat deze auto vergelijkbare prestaties heeft van een 4.5V8. Eenzelfde benaming is gekozen voor de RX400h en de LS600h. Logischer lijkt mij dat de auto aangedreven wordt door een 2.0 blok (van toyota?) en de prestaties gaat leveren van een 2.5V6.

Wij zullen alles zeker weten op Detroit 2009, waar de auto onthult gaat worden.

Uit meerdere bronnen komen de laatste tijd geruchten dat Lexus bezig zou zijn met de ontwikkeling van een LS-F. Nu komt ook autoblog met een artikel over deze bolide, nadat eerder dit jaar al geruchten de ronde deden over de GS-F (ook autoblog).

Lexus zou de GS-F in de ijskast hebben geplaatst i.v.m. oa. de duurdere benzine prijzen, maar nu de IS-F hogere verkoopcijfers heeft dan de M3 en de C63 AMG, zou dit project weer eens op tafel kunnen komen. Volgens Hirokazu Koga, de general manager van het Lexus development center, zou een LS-F wel eens in het verschiet kunnen liggen als de GS-F komt.

Lexus may be throttling back its plans to attack the performance side of its German rivals, but that doesn’t mean it won’t expand its F-badged lineup in the future. Hirokazu Koga, general manager of the Lexus Development Center and one of the men behind the IS F, told Autoblog that if the automaker goes forward with plans to create a GS F, an LS F could be in the cards.

Renderings and rumors of the GS F have been circulating since last year, but word came down in August that Lexus planned to delay the introduction of the 500+ hp sedan due to the economic downturn and the (then) high price of fuel. Add that to the possible cancellation of the LF-A, and things aren’t looking good for Lexus’ foray into the world of high performance.

If an LS F model would come to market, only a few drivetrains could be fitted to the hulking sedan to give it the level of performance necessary to carry the F badge. If Toyota does decide to build the LF-A, its V10 powerplant would be a great candidate for the LS F to provide motivation and defer some of the costs of the supercar.

According to two Lexus execs we spoke to, the IS F outsold both the Mercedes-Benz C63 and BMW M3 Sedan last month (we can’t confirm, since Lexus doesn’t break down sales of the IS by model), but if consumers are accepting the idea of a high-performance Lexus, than other models will surely follow.
